Recording my failed attempts to get back into the habit of writing over the past year or so.

Status Update (May 2021)

First thing's first, I should address what I've been up to since my last post. It's been nearly a month, and a lot has happened. To be honest, I was in a remarkably lazy and depressed state for about a week after that post. If you follow me on Twitter, you may know why that is: I didn't get the gig with 3Blue1Brown.

I mentioned there that I wouldn't be surprised at a rejection, given the tough competition (2500+ applicants, 10 interviewees, ~2 interns). But it took me a few days to get over the rejection. In fact I didn't really address my emotions around it until I began drafting my reply to Grant–I weeped. It was tough. Even though I knew post-interview that the naive probability of getting the gig was around 20%, the prideful part of me thought I had it in the bag.

On the bright side, I got to meet and chat with my favorite math YouTuber ever. And it felt more like a conversation than a sweaty interview, which is crazy. Grant was incredibly kind and fun to talk to. He treated me like a peer! What an incredibly validating and empowering experience.

Grant cheesing after I mention Kevin Simler's blog (Melting Asphalt). What a handsome lad.

Well, that's my retrospective analysis of the situation. In reality I was an absolute potato the week following the rejection. I skipped class (nothing new tbf), ate junk, and binged a dumb dating show for a few days straight. It was not my proudest moment.

On the bright side, things have been much better since then. I finished my junior year of university (!!!) and am now on vacation in Maui with my parents as I write this. I'm having a grand ol' time.

Status Update (February 2022)

Well I clearly have some catching up to do. Wow, 2021 sucked. I really came in real hot thinking I was going to output so much content, and then I just stopped and became silent for nearly a year.

Status Update (July 2022)

There are 158 days left in this year. If I begin writing today, and publish every single day, then I have a shot at actually sticking to my word and publishing 100 things before 2023. I'll also have around 60 days of buffer for when life gets in the way. The challenge will be writing interesting material consistently...but maybe it doesn't have to be interesting at first.

I intend for my next post to be about a thought-provoking conversation I had with a friend from my Indian community this past weekend. If that ends up being the case, I'll link to it here.

That is all!

P.S. as always, please reach out to me if you have any feedback, or just want to chat!
